We will be establishing a new non-profit organization in Seguin, Texas that will bring disparate cultures together with the purpose of harmonizing cultures and raising monies to create an d maintain parks and also historical properties in the Seguin community.
Seguin Together is a working title for the organization.
There will be a 15 member board that will be made of 5 hispanic members, 5 members of German, English who have family roots going back generations, and 5 members made up of recent residence to the community.
How do we raise monies?
Initially we will go out to the business community and raise $25,000 to $50,000.
We will also be looking for individual donations.
What is the purpose for raising the money?
We will host a three night party which will be similar to NIOSA and Wurzfest. There will be a gate fee and also food and drink coupons which we will keep 10% of the proceeds. We will bring in a known headliner and there will be food and drink booths.
What are we going to do with the proceeds we collect?
Our first priority will be to transform the city property that Juan N. Seguin's body lies on. We will erect a second headstone for Juan Seguin's wife. It is our understasnding that her headstone and body were swept away in a San Antonio River flood many years ago. If we find this to be false, we will bring her body back to rest next to her husband. We will also erect a monument that will have the names of hispanic soldiers that fought at the Alamo and also at San Jacinto. We will also look at creating a garden environment on the rest of the city property.
In the years following how will the money be spent that is raised?
Once the Juan Seguin Park is built we will work on other city property as well as historic buildings in Guadalupe County.
